Today's roundup of blogs include articles on Legend of the Seeker, Wizard Rock, MirrorMask, Magic Sportsmanship, Good Reads, and the town of Forks. I hope you find something you deem worthy :)

Today on Faith's Fantasy is Love Blog I posted a number of different things about Wizard Rock. From the article: "I love Wizard Rock. I guess we could expand that and say that I enjoy fandom based projects in general and seeing how different stories inspire amazing things from fans....but I guess I should back up for a minute-if you don’t know what I’m talking about, Wizard Rock is..."

On Faith’s Fantasy Is Love Blog yesterday I posted an article on MirrorMask where I talked about trivia from the movie and Masks in fantasy movies in general.

Today on Robert's Fantasy Is Love Blog he posted about The Legend of the Seeker Premiere (Wizard's First Rule becoming a television program-read the blog)

Yesterday on Robert's Fantasy Is Love Blog he posted about Good Reads and linked to his profile on there for fellow readers to add him. :)

On MTG Wanderer Robert posted an article about Magic Sportsmanship.

On Twilight is Love I posted an article on Forks and Twilight

So... this concludes this blog roundup.

Top 5 Female Characters That Suck!

Today Robert and I posted on each of our blogs. My favorite post from today is from Robert's FiL Blog, which got the title of this post. Read below to pick which posts you'd like to read...

Top 5 Female Characters That Suck! ... This post is really meant for male writers, but I think it's something we can all relate to as readers, I know that I laughed quite a bit reading this and caught myself nodding my head. From the post: " I don't ever care to be thought of as macho and as such I rather enjoy writing from a female perspective at times. I want to give a few tips to the other male writers out there because doing this badly can seriously ruin the flow of a piece of writing, especially for female readers. Here are the top five female characters that suck…that guys write All. The. Time."

On quite a different note (really!) today I wrote the post "Buffy the Vampire Slayer and other Fantasy Characters that Inspire". From the post: "I recently listened to this npr story about a woman working as a journalist in Iraq, seeing the terrible things of war and unsure of how to cope. So where does she turn? Episodes of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, of course!"

Shards of Alara Spoiler- Mycoloth=Good From the post: "I don't care how much people are saying that Mycoloth is not constructed worthy...."

I'm Team Edward, but sometimes, I hate him a little. From the post: "I adore Edward Cullen, I really do. But sometimes, it's hard not to throw my books across the room screaming with how upset I am...."

That's it for today! I hope you found something worth reading :)
-Faith

fantasy blogs

I meant to write this blog post a few days ago but the longer I put off doing it, the more it feels like a chore, and the less inclined I was to do this. Weird how that happens with the simplest things sometimes.

Anyhow! Robert and I have been thinking about organizing fantasy blogging activities of ours, and in that vein we now have four blogs up and running. You can check out descriptions of each of them on their about pages, or check out the BLOGS page on fantasy is love which has brief descriptions of each.

As far as our lj blog here goes, I am thinking I will update once a day with links to any posts made that day with info about them so you can see if there’s anything you’d like to read. So...that’s the plan!

There have been a number of posts that I haven’t updated about, and I’ll try to quickly post about them here.

In Robert’s first post "Welcome!" he talks about both Dr Horrible and Jacqueline Carey’s Kushiel series and includes a video of the author with Felicia Day. Two strains of awesome-one post. :)

In his next post "Brisingr Release Almost Here!" Robert gives some details about the release of the next book in the Inheritance Cycle (hint: Eragon).

In my "First Post I talk about first posts, what to expect from this blog, and the sorts of things that interest me.

On Sept 7th there was the True Blood Premiere and I talk about my thoughts there as well as their interesting marketing campaign for the show. Includes a fun video.

Supernatural Season 3 Gag Reel. Enough said :)

And in my most recent post I talk about what I plan to be Reading Soon: The Stowaway a new YA fantasy novel from R.A. and Geno Salvatore. Read all about it in the post.

Love Twilight? Then you must check out the Twilight FanArt in this post! Great stuff, comic book style, I love it :)

This blog starts off with "What's this thing all about?"

Next up we have It all started with some Urza’s commons… which talks about Robert's history with Magic: The Gathering.

This post, "Down the Rabbit Hole Again.." talks about where Robert is with Magic: The Gathering these days.

Then Robert posted about Shards of Alara Spoiler Season

Robert posted a link to a site with some politically minded MtG things in his post Magic: the Gathering “Shards of Democracy” 2008 election

If you read the previous posts you'll see that typically Robert has played MtG live, in person...and he has now started playing online, which lead him to post Magic Online: First Thoughts

Whew, ok, that catches us up! Much more coming soon of course, but I hope you have found something interesting to read here.

Wheel of Time happenings

A while back when I posted the second issue of Fantasy is Love I posted about what's happening with the Wheel of Time series since Jordan's passing-but now something totally new is happening! Universal purchased the film rights for the Wheel of Time series.

There's an article about it right here from a little over a week ago. I thought that after that IMDB would post some more information on what's happening with this, but all they've done so far is put up a page that says "The Eye of the World, 2011" for IMDB pro members only, and I haven't found much more information beyond that.

For fans of the books, do you think they'll adapt well to the screen? I think it's always hard to know whether they'll do a great job or not. I'm sure LOTR fans were scared when they made that into a film, heh.

Terry Pratchett/Discworld Blanket

Today when I was stumbling all things fantasy (feel free to friend me by the way, I love stumblupon!) I came across a great many things-one of which was a Pratchgan.

When a group of discworld fans on ravelry, a knitting and crochet community heard about Terry Pratchett being diagnosed with Alzheimer's they wanted to do something. Apparently, they decided to ban together and create squares for the Pratchgan, which was recently given to Terry Pratchett in person at the Edinburgh International Book Festival!

You can see a blog post right here about the experience of giving Pratchett the blanket, and you can read one of the letters given to Pratchett explaining the blanket right here.

What a sweet, fabulous project! I love it :)

Labyrinth

I think the film Labyrinth will always hold a special place in my heart, in large part because of my tenth grade English teacher. In his class we watched a number of films as literature-which basically meant that every 20 seconds or so he would hit pause and we would discuss the symbolism of the color of the curtains. Most students hated this, but I thought it was wonderful. When I heard we would be watching Labyrinth, I wasn't too thrilled. This film terrified me as a child in a way no other film had. The idea of meeting creatures who could pull off their heads and throw them at you-ugh, we probably shouldn't talk about it-suffice to say, it scared me.

However, this time through I was not as frightened and came to really love the film. In fact, it changed the way I watched films and read books from there on out-I started critically thinking about the stories that used to just play in the background of my mind. I love watching for the details in film not, too. How many other people have taken the time to think about that bird in the opening credits, noticed the books and toys in Sarah's room, or even thought about what the literary references in some of the character's names really means?

Labyrinth is a very interesting and fun film, and for me, it had quite the impact on my life. :) Definitely has to be up there on my favorites list.

chattering about Penelope and a bit about the Twilight Movie Release

It wasn't that long ago that I watched Penelope, but I'm already thinking of renting it again. Maybe that means I should go ahead and purchase the DVD.

If you haven't seen this film, I would recommend it. It has Christina Ricci, James McAvoy, and Reese Witherspoon in it. The story is about a girl with a family curse that won't break until she is wed, she's in her early twenties and has spent her whole life focused on breaking the curse.

I sort of left the film with a similar feeling that I had after watching Enchanted, though the stories aren't all that similar.

One of the things I really loved about the film Penelope were the costumes and stage set ups. The colors in this film were just lovely. I liked the bubbles when she gets out in the world, and I desperately want a Penelope scarf!

In other news, because the sixth Harry Potter film release was pushed back to Summer (sad! it was supposed to be released this Thanksgiving), they decided to move up the release of Twilight to November 21st (three weeks early!) yay!

I haven't heard about whether they are changing release dates in other countries yet, but I would guess that they wouldn't be so mean as not to do it.

Twilight Is Love

From the Fantasy Is Love Media Blog:

You won’t really be seeing updates for Twilight business on this blog anymore, because I have decided to let my slight obsession with the series run free on it’s very own blog: Twilight Is Love. Just this past week the teaser trailer for the film has been released, the movie poster, and now the website, so, I’m sure there will be lots to talk about. :)

For this livejournal, I'll still post clips when I update the Twilight Blog-what I'll do, I think, is do sort of a "blog round-up" with clipits from the different blog posts of the day.

From the Twilight is Love Blog:

"I had been told by a couple of people to read Twilight, but put it off for quite a while. See, it wasn’t that I thought I wouldn’t like the story. Oh, no, no, actually-I was worried about becoming addicted...."

((Continued HERE))

"The Twilight Movie site is up with the pretty poster, and the pretty trailer, and the excitement almost makes me forget how very far away December really is...."

((Continued HERE))T

New FantasyIsLove launched! Too much to list in title!

I mentioned it earlier this month, and it’s finally here! A thoroughly revamped Fantasy Is Love!

Some of the Things That Are New:

Magazine! – The new Fantasy Is Love Magazine! This first issue features Priscilla Hernandez on the cover, and there’s a great interview with her inside! Among the many great things inside are A Beginner’s Guide to RPGs, the Top Reasons to Watch Dead Like Me, more interviews, links to fantasy hot spots around the web, and more. A great read!

Fantasy Fanspace – A social networking site for those of us who are fantasy artists, writers, crafters, musicians, or a fan of any level, it’s a platform for connecting to other fantasy fans.

Quotes – The popular quotes generator on FantasyIsLove.com still has the same quotes you love, but we have doubled the number of quotes in the generator!

Plus, every other page throughout the site has had it’s layouts, wordings, and other parts tweaked and improved. We’re really excited about these changes, and hope you’ll love them to! Please be in touch with any thoughts or concerns you may have.

New Releases: Stardust Soundtrack, Supernatural, and Charmed

((((From the Fantasy Is Love Blog post here))))

Today we have three new releases marked on the Fantasy Is Love Calendar today including the Stardust Soundtrack, Supernatural Season 2, and the final season of Charmed.

The Stardust Soundtrack by composer Ilan Eshkeri has gotten a great review on scorenotes.com which also includes some sound clips. I would assume that if you are interested in purchasing the soundtrack you have seen the film, so I feel compelled to mention that Take That’s Rule the World is not on this soundtrack, since it is seems to be quite a popular song from the film. The song is being released as a single on October 29th.

Supernatural Season 2 is being released on DVD today! I talked a bit about my favorite episode of the season on this post two weeks ago. If you’ve gotten behind on the show, this is an excellent opportunity to grab the dvd set and catch up before season 3 premieres on October 4th.

Season 8 of Charmed is now out on DVD and while I haven’t checked them out myself yet, the extras do look promising. There are three featurettes, including a two part documentary (“The Story of Charmed” and “Forever Charmed”) with part one including parts of the original, unaired, pilot with Lori Rom playing Phoebe. There is also supposed to be a gag-reel and episode commentaries on a number of episodes, among other things. It seems like it is definitely worth checking out for Charmed fans!

Moonlight

((((From the Fantasy Is Love Blog post here))))

I would like to tell you about another new show coming in the next few weeks, but I just know that as soon as I say the words “vampire detective” here, someone out there is going to be sitting in front of their computer screen screaming out “Angel!”. I understand the urge, and, while Angel is definitely my favorite vampire detective, it’s not Angel. This vampire detective is named Mick St. John, he has been a vampire for 60 years when on his wedding night his seductress bride Coraline sired him. He is now suffering as he falls in love with the off limits Beth-a mortal-and a news reporter. And he’s doing it all on the new show “Moonlight”, premiering in a few weeks. The first episode is titled “There’s No Such Things As Vampires” and jumps right into the story with Mick St. John trying to figure out who is committing a string of “vampire like” murders around town.

Below I have TWO youtube videos for your pleasure. ONE is the CBS trailer for Moonlight and TWO is the promo “Interview with a Vampire”, an interview with Mick St. John (Alex O’Loughlin).

CBS, and of course Fox, (think Firefly, Wonderfalls...) are somewhat famous for giving up on television programs after a few episodes. If you plan on giving Moonlight a chance, I suggest doing it from the beginning.

<lj-embed id="3" />

<lj-embed id="4" />

I’d like to note that many Angel fans have been upset about the obvious similarities between Moonlight and Angel. While the show does have a vampire detective with love problems who seems to like to brood, and who apparently lives in LA from what I’ve read, there is no promise that the two shows will have much more in common. Personally, when I consider how much I love Angel and still crave new episodes, I figure the similiarities between the two shows is more of a reason to watch Moonlight than to give up on it without having actually seen it. Feel free to debate this on the Fantasy Is Love Forums!

Moonlight premieres on September 28th on CBS (CTV in Canada)

I believe in my last entry here, I was talking about how I am going to be a better LJer. How dissapointing. Well, in good recap fashion...

Here is a recent post from the main fantasy is love blog behind this cut about Hopefully all of you living in areas where Stardust is currently playing have seen it already! I caught my second viewing of it yesterday, and I must say, it’s just as good the second time around. The film won’t be released in the UK for a bit still, but I feel confident that all of you in that part of the world will just love it. Know that you have something to be excited about!

For the next week, in celebration of Stardust, the quote generator on Fantasy Is Love will be Stardust themed. (feel free to leave me a note if there is a quote you would like added!) For those of you who have seen the film, this will be a fun way to relive your favorite moments! And for those of you who haven’t, hopefully this will help motivate you to do so! This was honestly a great film, and if you wait until it’s out on DVD, you will be sad you missed your chance to see it in theatres.

Speaking of DVD, I know a lot of people after seeing the film have said “it’s definitely one I will be buying”, so I thought I’d give you a bit of news on that front. DVDactive has announced that the DVD for Stardust will be released on December 18th! Paramount has not confirmed anything yet to my knowledge, and I’m waiting to hear from them for more concrete details on what features the DVD will have, but the news is coming.

The soundtrack to the film will be released on September 11th, and one week later on September 18th you can pick up The Visual Companion. Composer Ilan Eshkeri recently did an interview on scorenotes.com about his work on the Stardust score and what working on the score was like.

Another interview worth checking out is one Neil Gaiman did with scifi.com both on Stardust and some of his other upcoming projects.

If you are still craving more Stardust, I recommend checking out the official Stardust website and checking out some of their fun site features, and would also like to encourage you to strike up a conversation with your thoughts on the film on the Fantasy Is Love Forums.
The film you need to see again and again :)

And, a post on the new upcoming fall show "Reaper"...

It's that time of year where the commercials are running, trying to convince you to watch the next big show on television. If you haven't heard much about this show yet, you really need to.

The show is called "Reaper". The more I read about it, the more I feel it has sort of a "Supernatural" and "Wonderfalls" appeal, fantasy with humor. The show is about a boy who is a bounty hunter for the devil, who collects souls with everyday items such as a Red Devil dirt buster. The evil souls are collected and taken back to hell on earth, which just so happens to be the local DMV office. Are you catching the humor here?

Sam, our slacker reaper, is a boy who lives with his parents and works at a hardware store, who has taken it easy his entire life until on his 21st birthday he finds out that his parents sold his soul to the devil. He's in for a bit of a lifestyle change.

The show is directed by Kevin Smith, which I believe means that the show will be sticking to it's firm roots in humor. The extended preview is full of quotable humorous moments, but my favorite takes place with Sam's best friend.

Reaper (Sam): "My parents sold my soul to the devil."
Friend:"You lucky bastard."
Reaper (Sam): "What?"
Friend: "Well nothing cool like that ever happens to me, man!"

I tried to find the best quality video that I could for you, hopefully the video below works out. You can also view the video directly on youtube.com, and take a minute to share your thoughts on the show on the Fantasy Is Love Forums.

<lj-embed id="2" />
This is the extended preview of Reaper, the CW's new show on Friday nights, premiering September 25th.

I have been terribly neglectful of actually posting in this livejoural. I promise to make a good effort and become better at it.

As I posted on the blog on FiL.com I am seeking submissions for a new section on Fantasy Is Love. I'm not entirely sure what I plan on naming it yet, but perhaps I'll have a poll or something for that later. :) Read about it behind the
Fantasy Tours - Seeking Submissions

Hello!
I’m going to start a new section on FiL, which, for the moment, is being called “Traveling Fantasy”, but I’m also considering “Fantasy Adventures” and “Fantasy Tours” (which I think is my favorite idea so far). Feel free to make other title suggestions if you have them! The idea is to have pages for different things to see and do for fantasy lovers in different towns. For example, a fairy statue in your favorite park, a fantasy exhibit, art gallery, favorite shop or local ren fair?
Feel free to be creative with this, but when I think of doing this, I imagine an article (with photos) going through a trip with you to see something fantasy related. For extra fun, you could even be dressed up in the photos. The articles should read fun and take people through what you did, and what they’re seeing (the fairy statue, fantasy exhibit, art, shop, fair, or whatever it is). Remember while you’re writing them to think like a tour guide, and make sure to mention if you can only see it at certain times of the year or any other important information you can think of.

I’m looking for submissions from you! Feel free to be creative while putting these together! I’d appreciate everything and anything you can send my way!

You can email me at admin (@) fantasyislove.com

Thank you for your time!

“Above all, watch with glittering eyes the whole world around you because the greatest secrets are always hidden in the most unlikely places. Those who don’t believe in magic will never find it.” Roald Dahl

In other news, there are new fun posts on Fantasy Handmade, I love the pretty things at the GlassDiane etsy shop that are up right now. Just gorgeous.

They have released an extended preview trailer for the film The Golden Compass! I posted the youtube video of it up on the fantasy is love main blog (a few posts down) and you can watch it there. It's 5 minutes of awesome, and I'm really excited for the film, even if it doesn't come out until December.

Speaking of films, Stardust comes out on August 10th! I'll lj cut the trailer of the film
<lj-embed id="1" />

If you haven't seen the trailer, you should! And if you've only seen the commercials on television, I recommend seeing the full trailer. It wins.

I'm very excited to see this film, too. I'm hoping it'll be a lot of fun. What do other people think?

I trust that everyone had a good weekend!

There is a new interview up with Author Jennifer L. Miller on her book, SPEAKING WITH SHUGAAN, the writing community, and other aspects of being an author. In the interview she discusses the new writing group, Word Weavers, that she has helped form with fellow author M.K. McWilliams, and how the project can be used by both writers, and readers. I hope you'll read the interview and check out her work!

Updates! New interview, new article!

There is a new interview up at FantasyIsLove.com with fantasy artist Sue Miller! The interview features two of her GORGEOUS pieces of work (seriously, it makes my heart go all a flutter!) along with insights to the artist’s life, I've included the beginning of the interview below...

"Fantasy Artist Sue Miller produces some amazing work and is a valuable asset to the fantasy community. Her enthusiasm for her work as an artist, teacher, and member of the fantasy and art communities is apparent in everything she does. Below is an interview I had the pleasure of doing with her recently where she discusses her role as an artist and teacher, how that integrates into her life currently and in the past, and her general passion for all that she does."

CLICK HERE to read the interview!

Yesterday, the new two disc dvd edition of Disney's Peter Pan was released-and in mark of that we have an article up from writer Little Willow titled Peter Pan and Friends! This article examines the tale of Peter Pan and discusses various other novels that have been written using characters from the tale. Definitely worth checking out!

Also, a reminder, yesterday Maryrose Wood's new YA novel came out, "Why I Let My Hair Grow Out", you can read our interview with Maryrose Wood (for those who haven't yet) HERE where we discuss her new book, spoilers to the sequel, and she gives some insight to her process as an author.

Also! A final friendly reminder, the Wizard Rock contest for the Parselmouths cd ends tonight, March 7th, at 11:59 pm PST. Make sure to check it out!
